Artist & Galleries
Website Design

Thrive designs websites for artists, galleries, festivals and arts organisations across Australia. Our Gold Coast team builds artist and gallery websites around the work itself: fast, image-led galleries, exhibition programs, artist pages, stockroom enquiries and online art sales, built so the site gets out of the way and the art does the talking.

Websites for artists and galleries

Art is too important not to share. Thrive Digital designs artist and gallery websites that present the work properly, handle exhibitions and sales without fuss, and are simple enough for an artist or a gallery manager to keep current.

What does an artist or gallery website need?

A collector, a curator and a casual visitor all arrive with the same request: show me the work, quickly and beautifully, and then tell me how to see it or buy it.

  • Image-led design with large, colour-accurate reproductions that load fast on a phone and are protected from casual download where you want them to be.
  • An exhibition program with current, upcoming and past shows, each with dates, images, an essay or statement and a catalogue.
  • Artist pages with biography, CV, selected works and representation details, structured so each one can rank for the artist’s name.
  • A catalogue or stockroom with availability, dimensions, medium and an enquiry or buy button on every work.
  • Online sales where you want them, with shipping, framing options and certificates handled, on WooCommerce or Shopify.
  • A newsletter sign-up and social links, because exhibitions sell on the mailing list.
  • A content system the gallery manager or artist can run without a developer: new works, new shows, sold stickers.

What an artist or gallery website needs

The work comes first

Large images, generous whitespace, no clutter, and typography that stays out of the way. The design should feel like a well-hung show, not a brochure.

Fast, even with hundreds of images

Galleries accumulate thousands of images over the years. We build the image pipeline so works load instantly on a phone and still look right on a large screen, with sizes, colour and sharpness handled automatically.

Exhibitions as the backbone

Current, upcoming and past exhibitions, each with its own page, images, text and catalogue, archived so the history of the gallery is searchable and each show can rank for the artist’s name.

Enquire or buy, on every work

Each work carries its title, medium, dimensions, availability and a clear button: enquire, or buy now. For galleries selling online, the cart, shipping and certificates run on WooCommerce or Shopify.

Artist pages that rank

Collectors search for the artist, not the gallery. Each artist page carries biography, CV, representation and a selection of works, structured so it appears for that artist’s name.

Easy for a small team

Most galleries run on two or three people. Adding a work, marking it sold, posting a show or updating an artist should take minutes, and we train you to do it.

Artists, commercial galleries, artist-run spaces and festivals

An individual artist needs a clean portfolio with a CV, a statement, selected works and a way to buy or enquire. A commercial gallery needs an exhibition program, a stockroom, artist pages and a sales process. An artist-run initiative or a festival needs a program, a call-out and an audience, often on a tight budget. An art marketplace needs member accounts, listings and payments.

We have built all of these, from King Street Gallery on William in Sydney to the SWELL Sculpture Festival on the Gold Coast, and the first thing we do on any arts project is work out who the site is for and how the work should be seen.

Art and gallery websites across the Gold Coast, Sydney and Australia

Thrive is based in Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast and has designed websites for artists and galleries locally, in Brisbane, Sydney and the Northern Rivers. Work includes SWELL Sculpture Festival, the Gold Coast’s outdoor sculpture festival; King Street Gallery on William, a Sydney gallery representing established Australian artists; The Walls, an artist-run initiative in Miami; Northern Rivers Creative, a regional creative directory; Art Lovers Australia, an online art marketplace with member accounts and commission payments; and 19 Karen Art Gallery.

Projects run by video call and a shared project board, so a gallery in Melbourne gets the same process as one in Burleigh. We also design websites for photographers and creative services and entertainment and events.

Marketing for artists and galleries

A website only works if people find it. The same team that builds gallery websites runs SEO so artist and exhibition pages rank, email marketing for the exhibition invitations that actually sell work, Facebook and Instagram ads for openings, and the digital marketing strategy that ties it together.

Got questions?

Artist & Galleries Website Design FAQs

How much does an artist or gallery website cost?

It depends on the number of artists and works, whether you are selling online, and how much of the content and image preparation we do. An artist portfolio and a commercial gallery with a stockroom and online sales are very different projects. Every project starts with a written scope and a fixed quote, so you know the price before we begin.

How long does it take?

Most artist and gallery websites take six to ten weeks from the first meeting to launch. Image preparation is the usual reason projects run long, so we agree a format early and build in stages you can review as we go.

Can we sell art online?

Yes. We build online sales on WooCommerce or Shopify, with shipping rules for framed and unframed work, optional framing, certificates of authenticity and a sold status that updates the catalogue automatically. For galleries that prefer enquiries to carts, every work gets an enquiry button instead.

How do you handle image quality and protection?

We build the site to serve each image at the right size for the screen, so a work looks sharp on a large monitor and loads instantly on a phone, with colour preserved. Right-click protection and watermarks are available, though we usually recommend relying on resolution limits rather than fighting screenshots.

Can the website manage our exhibition program?

Yes. Exhibitions have their own section with current, upcoming and past shows, each with images, dates, text, a catalogue download and the artists involved. Past shows stay online as an archive, which is good for your history and for search.

Do you build websites for festivals and arts organisations?

Yes. SWELL Sculpture Festival and Northern Rivers Creative are examples. Festival and organisation sites need a program, artist call-outs, sponsor and partner sections, maps and event information that changes every year, so we build them to be updated by your team.

Do you work with artists and galleries outside the Gold Coast?

Yes. We have built sites for galleries in Sydney and the Northern Rivers and for artists around Australia. Projects run by video call and a shared project board, so distance makes no difference to the result.

Do artist websites need SEO?

Yes, with a particular focus. Collectors search for the artist’s name, and curators search for exhibitions and themes. We structure the site so each artist page and exhibition page can rank for its name, and our SEO team can keep building on that after launch.

Will the website look like a template?

No. Every site is designed from scratch around the work and the way you want it seen. The design is deliberately quiet so the art is what people remember.

Who looks after the website once it is live?

We do, if you want us to. Our hosting and support plans cover the server, security updates, daily backups and help with changes, and we train you so adding works, marking them sold and posting shows is something you can do yourselves.
